Although not directly in control of the Welsh Government neither document seems to deal with grid capacity in any detail. As we move towards net zero both housing, industry and many other sectors are moving towards a reliance on electricity as their main source of power. I'm aware of a current issue in Newport where housing developers both private and affordable are unable to progress development due to a shortage of grid capacity. The role out of fast chargers and larger charging stations are particularly energy hungry and could easily use up any spare capacity in the grid in the area they are located. A coordinated approach is needed to consider all planned new development in an area, to ensure that the role out of charging infrastructure doesn't effectively delay or even at worse stop other much needed development such as housing until such time as the grid is upgraded. The cost of grid upgrades also need to be considered and planned for to ensure its is fairly shared between users.
